Energy Star, a joint program of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy awarded an amazing 99-point rating for Propp Realty’s Golden Hill Office Centre in Jefferson County. Although the office building was constructed more than 25 years ago, it was retrofitted by RMH Group, also a tenant in the complex. One of 16 buildings in the Propp Realty family, the Golden Hill building is outfitted with extensive passive solar and photovoltaic systems. It also has energy targets way beyond many new buildings being built today, according to RMH Group’s President, Bill Green
“We are thrilled by this designation,” says Propp Realty founder Daryll Propp. “Our motto for Propp Realty is Go West, Go Green and Go Healthy,” explains the Denver native and long-time Jefferson County businessman. “Golden Hill uses half of the energy of a normal building of this size, and we are truly committed to increasing the energy efficiency in all of our buildings.” In addition to Golden Hill, Propp Realty’s Applewood Tech Center and Academy Park Commons buildings are also energy-star rated.
An Energy Star-labeled building is one that can demonstrate energy performance of at least 50% better than an average facility of its type, provided it meets or exceeds industry standards for comfort and operability. Achieving an ENERGY STAR label provides confirmation to facility owners, occupants, visitors, and others that a facility is a high-performance green building.
“Not only is the Golden Hill Office Centre LEED Silver, but it is also performing at the top 2% in the country. I am so proud to have my District Office in such an energy efficient building. This Energy Star rating is a testament to how promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy is good for the bottom line and good for economic development. My staff and I take pride in working in a building that is setting a national standard for sustainability and energy use,” stated U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07).
